15mm Ancient Coin with Pegasus & Peirene
Pegasus, the winged horse was born from the blood of the gorgon Medusa and was said to have been fathered by Poseidon, god of the sea. He was eventually tamed by Bellerophon near the fountain of Peirene and was chosen as the symbol for a number of Greek coinage types. It was especially appropriate for the city of Corinth which was believed to have been the city of Bellerophon.
Obv: Pegasus flying left. Rev: Head of nymph Peirene left.
